both secure spot in the 2011-season
SATURDAY
DOOR Neptunus recorded this week’s 2nd shutout win over Konica Minolta Pioniers and is only one win away from the Holland Series. Leon Boyd pitched a 5-hitter over 6 innings and was aided by 3 relievers, of which Dushan Ruzic recorded a save.
In the 5th Shaldimar Daantji singled to left with 2 outs. Eugene Kingsale doubled him home. In the 7th losing pitcher Jurjen van Zijl loaed the bases and Benjamin Dille singled in 2 insurance runs.
Corendon Kinheim had a 17-hit attack to revenge the ugly loss of Friday night against L&D Amsterdam. All 9 starters had at least one hit. Jason Halman doubled and homered and recorded 4 RBI. Rene Cremer, Onno Jansen and Niels van Weert each had 3 hits.
Duko Jansen won the game and Michiel van Kampen notched a save. Ben Grover allowed 11 hits in 5.2 innings and lost the game.
Nick Urbanus and Vince Rooi both went 3 for 5.
Gregory Gustina once again pitched a complete game. He struck out 4 and issued 2 walks in an 8-4 win over ADO. The score was tied at 4, when Sparta/Feyenoord erupted for 4 runs in the top of the 9th. Nick Eppinga walked and was sacrificed to 2nd by Kevin van Nederpelt. Rubinet Koko tripled to right to score Eppinga. Rensver Jansen bunted Koko in. Ramiro Balentina reached on an error and Sape Wagenaar’s 3rd hit of the game was a double that scored both Jansen and Balentina. Jurrian Koks was the loser in relief of Ludwin Obispo. There were 9 errors in the game of which 4 by ADO.
In the evening Almere Magpies lost at home to Mr. Cocker HCAW 16-5. In the bottom of the 1st Magpies took a 5-0 lead. Jurien Overman (3 for 4) hit a 3-run homer. HCAW evened the score in the 2nd on 3 hits, two walks and an error by the Almere defense. HCAW scored 6 more in the top of the 5th when they chased starter Sten van de Bedum. Reliever Ewout Bos could record only one out in that inning and had to be replaced by Forstin Coenraad. He ran out of gas in the 8th and veteran Rene Rijst pitched the 9th. Kevin Miner went 7 innings for the win, striking out 10. Joran Klarenbeek pitched the 9th and struck out another two Almere batters.
SUNDAY
The 3rd shoutout in a row for DOOR Neptunus as Kevin Heijstek pitched 7 strong innings, striking out 3, while walking 3. He allowed 2 hits, both by Jefferson Muzo. Jorian van Acker and Berry van Driel each worked an inning; they did not allow a base runner and struck out one in the 8-0 win over Konica Minolta Pioniers.
Danny Rombley, who was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, led the 14-hit attack. Shaldimar Daantji went also 3 for 4. Starter (and loser) Arshwin Asjes allowed 10 hits in 4.2 innings and was charged with 5 earned runs.
Corendon Kinheim seems unable to beat L&D Amsterdam at home in Haarlem. Kinheim was leading 4-3 after 8 innings and closer Michiel van Kampen came in for another save opportunity. Roeland Henrique jr, doubled. A triple of the bat of Wesley Connor tied the score. Bas de Jong doubled in Connor and Nick Urbanus, who reached on a fielder’s choice. It made Al Morales, who worked 2 innings in relief of Jos de Jong, the winner. Jason Halman homered in the 3rd inning for the 2nd consecutive day.
Kinheim is in a must-win situation. Coming Saturday they have their last chance as Pirates leads the best-of-five series 2-1.
ADO and Sparta/Feyenoord had another nail biter. After 8½ innings the score was tied at 7. ADO-reliever Jurrian Koks made errors on 2 consecutive plays involving Kevin van Nederpelt. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Rutger Veugelers struck out, but Ramiro Balentina’s walk off single past a drawn-in infield ended the game.
In Bussum Mr. Cocker HCAW won the 3rd game of the series. Almere Magpies were beaten 7-1. Rookie Kenny van Kampen (L) lasted 4.2 innings and was charged with 3 runs, of which only 1 was earned. Van Kampen allowed 4 hits. Venezuelan starter Roger Luque (W) went 8 innings. He struck out 9, while scattering 5 hits. Fellow countryman Wuillians Vasquez hit a 2-run homer for HCAW.
Both Mr. Cocker HCAW and Sparta/Feyenoord are done playing this year. Neptunus moves to the Holland Series and will meet the winner of the semis between Kinheim and Pirates. The Holland Series will start September4 in Rotterdam.
