The first pitch of reliever Nick Stuifbergen (Corendon Kinheim) was a little up in the zone and Danny Rombley (DOOR Neptunus) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 8th inning.
It was the battle for first place Thursday afternoon in Rotterdam. Corendon Kinheim lost last Tuesday to fall 1 game behind league leader DOOR Neptunus and they needed a win to tie at first place.
Kevin Heijstek of DOOR Neptunus started the game with 7 straight strikes. In 5 innings of work he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3. He allowed both runs, of which one was earned. Reliever Dushan Ruzic improved his record to 4-0 with 4 innings on 2-hit relief.
David Bergman of Corendon Kinheim (101 pitches) was relieved by Nick Stuifbergen after giving up singles to Benjamin Dille and Raily Legito to start the 8th inning. Stuifbergen,’s first pitch was hit (by Danny Rombley) past 2nd baseman Rene Cremer for the go ahead run. Bergman suffered his first loss of the season. He allowed 10 hits, walked one batter and struck out three.
Corendon Kinheim tried to come back in the top of the 9th when Tjerk Smeets led off with a single. Bjorn Henrichs sacrificed him to 2nd base. With the nr 9-batter Remco Draijer due up, a change was expected by many. Drayer popped up to 2nd. Finally Rene Cramer struck out to end the game.
Saturday and Sunday both teams will meet again. As Corendon Kinheim is now 2 games back, the best they can do is tie by winning both games.
